Meet Britt Klein of Sotheby’s

”I pursued my dream of moving to Santa Fe, NM in 2011. Santa Fe, known as The City Different, represents my passion for high altitude luxury living, with the perfect blend of outdoor living, arts and rich history.”

The oldest capital city in the country, Santa Fe is rich in cultural history. Known as "The City Different" and labeled the #2 City in the USA by Conde Nast, Santa Fe is most famous for its vibrant art scene, it's "Pueblo-style" adobe houses, its fine dining, and its Balloon Fiesta. In an effort to best understand the real estate landscape of this majestical city, we teamed up with Britt Klein, of Sotheby’s International Realty whose diverse tenure spans nearly 20 years in the real estate industry, with a specialty in residential real estate acquisition including unique luxury real estate and golf course communities.

Three Tips Britt Shares With Home Purchasers in Santa Fe

The Santa Fe real estate market is primarily a secondary home and retirement destination, therefore our clients are driven more by lifestyle than practicality. It is important that every homebuyer in Santa Fe be equipped with these three tips.

1. Identify your desired lifestyle. Santa Fe real estate consists of varying lifestyles. It’s important to understand prior to purchasing real estate in Santa Fe whether expansive views with acreage for example is most important than the walkability to our Plaza or Canyon Road.

2. Understand the required maintenance on a property. Owning real estate at a high altitude with four distinct seasons requires homeowners to pay close attention to the maintenance required to properly care for homes on an annual basis. I emphasize the need to properly inspect homes during a due diligence period to clearly understand the soundness of the property being purchased.

3. Assess your needs vs. wants. Lastly, I recommend that any buyer make certain that they assess their needs when considering real estate here in Santa Fe vs. their wish list, since many of our historic properties for example were built with function in mind during the early 1900’s vs. to today’s luxury standards. If a garage for example is a non-negotiable need for example, then often driving just a few minutes away from the Plaza will open up options more in line with the amenities associated with newer construction.

Britt’s Perfect Day in Santa Fe

My day begins with a morning hike with my husband, Martin and our two pups, Kodi and Ziva, near the Ski Santa Fe resort along the 4.5 mile Chamisa Trail which parallels the Tesuque Creek and features tall aspen trees and beautiful wildflowers.

We then treat ourselves to a traditional New Mexican breakfast at the Tune-Up Cafe. Situated in an old adobe, Tune-Up Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with an eclectic atmosphere, making this the local hot spot!

After a mouth-watering breakfast, we leisurely stroll down Canyon Road, nestled in the historic district. This magical half miles features 80 galleries and designer boutiques offering one-of-a-kind-creations.

My ideal evenings range from listening to live music at the historic Santa Fe Plaza during the summer concert series to quiet evenings at home enjoying our unforgettable New Mexican sunsets.
